Today I took the chance to visit GFF-0336 South Bents to Tynemouth South Pier Head, which is located 4 miles north of the city of Sunderland on the north east coast . My location was at Souter Lighthouse and overlooking Marsden Rocks which is a excellent location of visiting seabirds at nesting season .
WWFF is working continiously to improve the service of the website. A new feature in the WWFFwatch DX-xluster is the “NEW SPOT” button. From now on you can make your WWFF spots directly from the WWFFwatch page. (TNX GMA & DL4MFM)
And don’t forget the amazing “smartWWFF” app to spot and monitor WWFF spots from your smartphone !
We, the ” Lupi della Majella Team” , IW6NZY Silvino, IZ6YLM Fiorello, I2JJR/HB9TZA Augusto, went yesterday to the IFF-0982 , “Parco Territoriale Attrezzato dell’ Annunziata” a new reference, near the Franciscan Monastery DAI-AZ0101 .
Transmitted CQs from about 0530 through 0845 UTC mostly on 17m band with occasional QSY to 15, 20 and 40m, but logged only 26 contacts. Eight overseas contacts were made on 17m: 4 EUs, 3 Asiatic Russians and VK4FW. Another contact with VK4FW on 15m was possible.
My signals were spotted in clusters several times and I am grateful to spotters, but it turned out that only a few stations called after each spot yesterday. The vertical antenna with two radials was the most I could set in a commercial parking space for sightseers.
Another one activation from our team in northen Greece. The group gathered around 9 in the morning of Sunday and started for Paiko mountain area. What we had to decide was the location point,as the area is large and there were many good choices. After discussing we decided to stay in the space of forest recreation after Kastaneri village where there also the church of Prophet Elias. The plan for today was to install two separate stations so that we work two different bands and make as many contacts we can. But the propagation was not with our side. Under these conditions the number of 400+ contacts οf previous activation(svff-0122) could not be approached.
WWFF is very proud to launch smartWWFF, an online APP for WWFF activators and hunters
Check it out : smartWWFF
As it is an online APP it runs on all smartphones and operating systems.
Tutorial : smartWWFF how to ?
WWFFwatch DX cluster in real time
Easy self-spotting to WWFFwatch via internet connection
Easy self-spotting to WWFFwatch via SMS (texting)
Direct access to DX-summit
So far the SMS (texting) feature is only working via a German account number. If wanted, volunteers can setup a local accesspoint in their country.
This APP is courtesy of DL4MFM and WWFF partner GMA (www.cqgma.net)
After a few rainy days its was time to go out for another activation. I decided to go to Demerbroeken, a large protected area in JO21LA. The last part of the trip I had to go by bycicle. I can put all the gear on the bicycle and drive a few miles.
After putting up the inverted-V (20-40-80m) I took some pictures from the area and from my GPS coördinates.
Starting on 80m I received very good inter-ON sigs. After a coffeabreak it was very busy on 40m as usual.
A visitor asked me what it was all about, so we were talking more then an hour about hamradio and other stuff. I always have some flyers with me for people who are really interested.
20m band was like calling in the dessert but a few nice contacts were made. Finally ended the activation with about 200 qso ( 6 P2P qso).
This was my 100th activation, having 24000 qso in my portable log ( 81 dxcc/ 61 confirmed, 464 P2P / 331 confirmed)
and I still enjoy the portable work. Going out, meeting people and visiting all those beautiful protected nature areas.
I always send EQSL, also LOTW and log is on QRZ.COM. Bureau cards are also going out but 4 times a year max.
So …up to the next activations. Enjoy WWFF!
